Winter Blahs

I really hate winter. I am totally over it. It hasn’t even been that bad this year, but it just wears me out. I promised you a photo of the Yarn Pirate Icicle, here it is.
<a href=”http://Yarn Pirate Icicle“>
I’m leaning towards that for my next socks. The poncho is chugging along. It looks the same only longer. I am enjoying making it, I may make one for myself when I’m done with Cara’s. I don’t have that much going on right now, on last Sunday evening, there was a herd of 10 deer in the field behind our house. You can sort of see them in these photos. It was dusk, so they aren’t the clearest in the world.

Everyone be safe the rest of the week and keep warm.

Super Sunday

So this is the first day in over 3 weeks that I haven’t had either a yoga class to teach or had to work at the coffee shop. I have to admit, I’m a little bored. There aren’t any sports that interest me on tv, so I’ve had a nap and been knitting all day. I turned the heel on the second Rappongi Sock. Now I can take it with me wherever I go and I don’t have to worry about counting rows or increasing or decreasing. Here is what it looks like: <a href=”http://Rappongi #2 Heel“>I’m still trying to decide what sock to work on next. I have a couple of skeins of Yarn Pirate Booty Club sock yarn that I’m leaning toward. Icicle or Solstice. I think I have photos of them.<a href=”http://Yarn Pirate BFL Solstice“>That’s Solstice I guess I never took a photo of Icicle. I will get that for you.   Speaking of photos, I can hardly wait for the premiere of Mike B.’s new photography website. I’ll let you know when it goes live so you can be sure to check it out!!!! There will be all kinds of different photos. He is an amazing photographer and this is his newest venture.    My newest venture is a poncho for my pal Cara. I found a terrific pattern in the book Weekend Knits by Melanie Falick. It is called the Union Square Shawl/Poncho. Basically you just knit a giant rectangle and then fold it over and sew the ends together to make the poncho shape. It is going super quickly, I’m using an alpaca blend yarn on size 9 needles. Oscar was helping me by checking out my progress.<a href=”http://Oscar Checking Out the Poncho“> Yes, I knit the blanket underneath, in case you were wondering. It’s from the Four Seasons Throw booklet. Yes, I washed in and it felted and I was really super bummed out. Don’t wash Manos, it’s a lesson I learned the hard way. It is still warm and cozy and the boys love it, especially Oscar. I hope everyone has a great week. I am scheduled for less hours at the coffee shop this week and I have to admit, I’m kinda looking forward to having some extra time off.

I am wondering if my problem the other day involved my pictures so I thought I would try a quick post with photos. Here are my Fetching Mitts completed. Sorry about the lousy photo.
<a href=”Finished Fetchings #2“>
And here is my Rappongi Sock in progress. I’m a little bit further along now, I’m working on the gusset.
<a href=”http://Rappongi #2“>
I was also going to tell you on Wednesday that I am going to be teaching a private yoga class. I’m very excited about that. I’ll post more tomorrow, I’m off all weekend. Hooray!!

Yarn Pron and Some FO’s

Sorry for the lame title post. I just can’t really come up with anything any better. I got my Noro Sock Yarn from The Loopy Ewe. I love the color and will be interested in seeing how it knits up. The color that I got is S102. Here is a photo.
<a href=”http://Noro Sock Yarn“>
I also have recently purchased Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran. I bought this to make my Fetching Mitts. I have one done and the other one is in progress. Here are photos of the completed one and a close up of the cuff pattern. It’s a little hard to see because of them being black.
<a href=”http://Fetching Mitt #1“>
<a href=”http://Cable Pattern Close Up“>
I’m hoping to have the second mitt done today so I can wear them tomorrow when I work. The first one basically got done in one evening, so I shouldn’t have a problem.

I completed the flame socks. Here is a photo of them. You might notice how much better this photo is than my usual. That is because it was taken by Mike B. Superphotographer.
<a href=”http://flameSocks.jpg“>
He says the socks are “Wicked Cool” and if it wasn’t only 5 above he would be wearing sandals so everyone could see them.
Now onto some random musings. I have a fantastic new winter coat that Darling Husband Carl got me for my birthday. It is a full length down coat from llbean with a giant furry hood. I am seriously not cold when I’m wearing it, and I think I may be in love with it. Really, I am in love with it!
I am searching for poncho patterns. My buddy Cara wants me to knit her a poncho and I’m looking for a good pattern. Any suggestions anyone?
I’m trying to decide what my next pair of socks are going to be. I need to cast on for the second of the Rappongi healthy spine socks. Remember I abandoned them to work on Holiday knitting. The lone completed sock is just lying over there, ends not even sewn in.
I don’t have any new music to listen to and I’m really bummed out about that. Does any one have new music they are crazy about? I’m just really bored with everything I’ve been listening to lately.
I have to work the next 6 days in a row, but I get next weekend off.

The Return of The Idol

How excited were we all for the return of American Idol last night?  I am so desperate for something besides sports to watch.  I think if the tv producers knew the damage the writer’s strike is causing, they would be much more motivated to settle.  I thought last night’s show was good.  We had all the usual suspects.  I am almost finished with Mike B.’s flame socks.  I might get them done today.  Then next on my list is making some fingerless gloves called Fetching.  The pattern is from Knitty and Kay from http://www.masondixonknitting.com made a bunch of them for Christmas gifts.  I’m hoping they will help keep my hands warm when I have to work in the drive thru.  It is soooooo cold, you just don’t have any idea!  So please be kind when you go through a drive thru is this kind of weather.  It might be someone like me in the window serving you, freezing my fingers off.

Bits and Bobs

So yesterday I promised lots of information and hopefully today I will be able to deliver. I have the pictures of the first finished flame sock.
<a href=”http://Finished Flame Sock #2“>
I have not gotten very far yet on the second sock. I have been busy with work and when I get home I’ve been staring off into space and sleeping. Not very good excuses, but it’s all that I’ve got. Maybe I’ll get the first section of color work done today.
Today is my day off from the coffee shop but I am teaching a new yoga class at the Y at 10:45 a.m. That seems like a kinda weird time to me, but that is when my students and the Y are available so we will see. I hope I have at least some students.
I am crazy about Dance War Bruno vs. Carrie Ann! I watched the premier that I had recorded yesterday. I already have people I’m rooting for. I haven’t watched the very end so I didn’t see the live performance, but I’m not sure how the show is going to work. Are the viewers going to vote people off? If anyone knows, give me a holler in the comments. I also watched a little bit of the season premier of LA Ink. I don’t know if I’m going to be into that show as much as I was last season. We will see.
Now I also promised a little bit of Britney talk. I’m really worried that this girl is going to go all Anna Nicole on us by Spring. I don’t understand why someone doesn’t just get a hold of her and commit her somewhere until she gets well. She is obviously sick either by chemical means or real mental illness. It’s just so sad.
On a completely different and happier note, I made my first yarn order of 2008. I ordered some Noro sock yarn from The Loopy Ewe. I’ve been looking at it for weeks and finally decided to use some of my Christmas money to get it. I’ll post pictures for you when it arrives. Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone.

Pictures of the first finished flame sock and excuses as to why I’m not further along on the second one.  Plus updates on my new job and new yoga class.  Maybe a review of Dance Wars, Bruno vs. Carrie Anne and thoughts on poor Britney.  Thats a lot of stuff for tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Moms

<a href=”http://Mom and Dad August 2007“>

Today is my lovely mother Carolyn’s 81st birthday. She is a pistol. Here are some random facts about my Moms. One of her favorite birthday gifts I ever got for her was a Molly Hatchet album (yes, album, I’m dating both of us). When I was in college, she could routinely drink me and my friends under the table. When she was 8 months pregnant with me,she was waterskiing in a gold lame bikini. My Moms loves to party and laugh and have a good time and I hope that is what she gets to do today on her special day. Happy Birthday Mom, I love you!!!

Happy 2008!

Yeah, I know it’s the 3rd already, I’ve been busy working everyday. I opened on New Year’s Day. We didn’t have very many customers at 7 a.m., but the dude that came through the drive thru in him pjs just cracked me up. I’ve also been knitting. Wanna see? I’ve been working on Mike B’s flame socks. The pattern is from Pink Lemon Twist.  I think they are called Hot Rod or Olympic Flame Socks.  I am using a combo of Dale of Norway Baby Ull Yarn in Black, Orange and Yellow and then for the red I’m using Rowan Yarns Classic Yarns in the Cashsoft DK.  I’m a little worried about how that yarn will wear, but Mike assures me he will be gentle with them.  I’m making pretty major adjustments to the pattern since it is written for a size 8 ladies sock and Mike is a Men’s size 14.  I’ve done a LOT of measuring to make sure they are going to be big enough.  They are very cool looking so far. Simon was helping me out with my photo shoot this afternoon. <a href=”http://Flame Sock and Simon“>The picture that’s good of the sock isn’t good of the cat and this one is a bit dark.<a href=”http://Simon and The Sock“>Here is a bit of a close up of the flame pattern.<a href=”http://Flame Sock Close Up“>The orange isn’t as day glo as it appears in that picture. For these socks I’m using my new KnitPicks Harmony wooden double point needles size 0. I got several sock sizes for Christmas. I love them, they are a joy to knit with. I also got a couple of books for Christmas. Just what I need, a sock pattern book.<a href=”http://Knitting Vintage Socks“>I highly recommend this book though. It is enjoyable reading even if I never make any of the patterns. I also got a book on spinning yarn.<a href=”http://Teach Yourself Visually Handspinning“>Boy did I get a surprise when I was looking through this book Christmas day and noticed that the person in all the photos was my spinning teacher Kate! Wow! I’ve got to get back to spinning again, maybe with my new schedule I will find some time for it. I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year!
