Happy Halloween everyone! I love Halloween, it’s so fun to see everyone dressed up. Every year at our house, there is one small child that says something that just completely cracks me up. I’ll keep you posted as to what it is. Unfortch, no knitting to report. I am going to get back to that soon. Last night was filled with DHC’s birthday celebration. Here was his big present.
<a href=”slot machine“>
So sorry about the blurry photo. That’s what happens when you take pictures very early in the morning. He has always wanted a slot machine for the fortress of solitude and now he has one. It uses real money. We only played with it for a short time last night, but it was fun.

Hope all BigSkyMind readers have all treats and no tricks this Halloween.

Happy Birthday Darling Husband Carl!

Today is a very special day! It is Darling Husband Carl’s birthday! He is so special and I just want him to know how much he means to me. He is always there for me when I need him. He is a great Papa to Simon and Oscar, altho I think he lets them get away with way too much! He makes the best egg and cheese biscuits in the entire world. All of his co-workers think he is fantastic! He is a devoted IU basketball fan. He has VERY diverse tastes in music! His favorite thing is being able to watch tv in his Fortress of Solitude, which he built from the ground up by himself. He is the handiest person I know! He also has mad interior decorating skills. He is very sweet and kind both to his Mom and to my parents too. All my friends think he is the bomb! He keeps our office supplied in the lastest in snack foods. He is always smiling and looks at the positive! Carl and Sally“>

Here it is late on Monday and I’m just getting around to posting and I don’t even have any photos to share with you.  I’m a bad blogger!  I spent the weekend working on DHC’s Argosy blanket.  I’m right at the halfway point and (wisely I think) decided that 9 p.m. was not a good time to try to figure out the decreasing.  So I may work on that tonight.  I also made Carl his birthday dinner last night.  Tomorrow is his actual birthday, but he loves turkey meatloaf and it just takes forever to bake so I made it yesterday afternoon.  We also had Parmesan smashed potatoes and pecan chocolate pie.  It was really good!  Leftover meatloaf sandwiches tonight.  I just read online that Porter Wagoner died today.  It said he was 80, I would have guessed older.  I wonder if Dolly will sing at his funeral?  I realize that this is all really random.  I’ve got something cohesive working for tomorrow.

My new booty club yarn actually came last week amid all of my drama. So I’m just now getting around to showing it to you. Georgia included two sets of new Yarn Pirate circular needles, and they’re pink! Love it! Here are some photos. New yarn inspector Simon had to get involved and give the yarn his sniff of approval.

As I said yesterday, it is super bright! I see it more as a scarf or mittens. Anyone have any other suggestions? I am working on the leg of the first Rappongi sock, here is a photo update.

I am super happy with how this sock is turning out. The pattern is fun and interesting, the heel turned perfectly, it fits like a dream, so far, so good. As DHC said to me last night “You are really starting to get the hang of this sock knitting thing”. I guess maybe I am. I am going to spend my weekend working on Argosy, maybe spinning a little and starting to make preparations for Darling Husband Carl’s upcoming birthday next week. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

The Things I Can’t Show You

This post is all about the things I can tell you about but not show you.  I have pictures of my new Booty Club yarn and the super cool needles that Georgia included as swag.  The photos are on the camera, not in the computer.  This month’s yarn is called Killer Bee’s and it is BRIGHT!!!

I have finished the heel of the first Rappongi sock and am working on the leg.  Maybe if I apply myself I will have sock one finished by this weekend.  If I do I will take a picture for you.

I also finally wet blocked my hand spun and it looks a little better than I thought it would.  So maybe there is more spinning in my near future.  I know that if I would keep practicing, my hand spun would get even better.  I may have to take up spinning class again.  It’s just a lot of work to load everything into and out of MINI Pearl for each session.

Speaking of MINI Pearl, she has her new brake shoes and we both like them very much.  Evidentally, they don’t make brake shoes in sparkle or pretty colors, but the ones she got are very functional and I am super happy about that.

My week has been steadily improving as each day goes along.  I have no illusions that this is not just temporary, but as I am trying to take each day as it comes, the fact that they are getting better and better is all I could ask for.

DHC finally got an answer from our cable company that they will not be carrying the Big Ten Network for basketball season and has ordered us a dish.  It will be delivered on Saturday afternoon, in plenty of time for the first game of the season.  We are only switching one tv in the fortress of solitude to the dish.  So that will be basketball headquarters for the season.

So there you have it, random Thursdayness.  Does anyone besides me think that Earl has gotten a little bit strange this season?  I know D thinks that The Office is getting weird too.  I love The Office so much, the weirdness doesn’t bother me.

Please excuse the cheesy post title.  I couldn’t help myself.  Check out these photos I took last night after yoga class.  A real rainbow!  How often do you see those anymore?

Rollercoaster

It feels like I am on a rollercoaster with my work life lately.  Some days like today are good and I feel relatively happy.  Other days like yesterday, I get so anxious before work that I was sick.  This is not a good situation and I’m realizing that even though there are days like today when everything is calm and productive that the other days are taking their toll on me emotionally (and now physically too).  I’m absolutely terrified of change, but I know that nothing ever stays the same, the only constant is change.  I’m not sure what the future holds for me.  I have yoga class tonight and I know that will be a gigantic help to me.  I missed last week due to the jeep being stolen.  Maybe I will be able to remember how to breathe and eventually relax a little bit.   I think that Mark Cuban should be voted off of “Dancing with the Semi-Famous” tonight.  I am worried about my Helio tho.  It wasn’t his best dance and I don’t know how many fans he has.  I’m afraid he might be in the bottom two.  Just what I need right now, another thing to worry about.

Weekend Update

First things first, we are very, very, lucky. We got a phone call on Thursday night from IMPD that the red jeep was found abandoned. It was out of gas and the battery was dead. After we had it towed to the house, we found out that the headlights are messed up and the windshield wipers aren’t working properly, but for the most part, the jeep is fine. DHC and I really never thought we would see jeepy again and there it is sitting right back in our driveway where it belongs. The reason I haven’t given you all this update sooner is the fact that I have been out of town celebrating ISU homecoming with my sorority sisters, Georg and Suzanne. I have lots of photos! We all met up Friday night and of course headed out on the town. Here are the girls enjoying a beverage at the famous Ballyhoo Tavern. It was a major part of our college experience and we could not celebrate Homecoming without a visit.
Friday Night
Don’t they look happy? Check this out, this is breakfast the next morning.
Saturday Morning
We didn’t get carried away at all on Friday, so we were all bright and bushy tailed on Saturday morning. We went outside to check out the big homecoming parade. Lots of boat floats this year. Our sorority float consisted of a car on a flatbed trailer, a little disappointing.

After the parade, we wandered around campus for awhile, then headed down to the stadium for tailgating activities. Here is a photo of the band getting ready to get the crowd all fired up for the game.

We found our school mascot Sycamore Sam and he graciously agreed to pose with us for a photo.
Us and Sycamore Sam
We are not completely sure what sort of animal Sam is supposed to be. We think after many years of study, he is a fox, but there is some thought that he could be a blue squirrel. Any thoughts readers? Eventually, the fantastic tailgating came to an end and thanks to Suzanne and all her connections, we had tickets to the game. Now I have been harrassed in the past for not actually going into the football game. I have photographic evidence that we did go in.
Football Game
Football Game 2
There is a good reason why we have avoided the games in the past. Our football team is the worst in all of college football. Seriously. By halftime the score was 42-0. Final score this weekend was 56-7. We were amazed that they scored at all. If I have my figures correct, we’ve won 1 football game in the last 3 seasons. At least the weather was perfect. Warm and sunny, so we didn’t mind sitting and watching the massacre for awhile. I should also note that we got to stay at a fantastic brand new hotel, they were still hanging pictures and exit signs while we were there. It was so nice, we weren’t quite sure we were in the right city. It was so centrally located, we walked everywhere except to the game it’s self.

I got no knitting done at all, but had such a great time, which I desperately needed, that I don’t care at all. I hope everyone had a great weekend as well.

Be Very Careful What You Wish For

So yesterday my post was all about how nothing was going on and I had nothing to blog about.  Then we go out for lunch and poof, my jeep is missing from the office parking lot.  Stolen!  Gone!  Our parking lot is not huge by any stretch.  It was a very bold move.  Stolen right between 11:30 – 1 p.m. yesterday.  I’m trying hard to keep good perspective, I could have been in the jeep.  It wasn’t my darling MINI Pearl.  Of all our vehicles the jeep, aka jeepy, or the hoopty was our oldest and least valuable.  It was a 1993.  Who knew until I looked online yesterday afternoon that 1993 jeep cherokees are in the top 10 most stolen vehicles?  My yoga bag was in there, so no yoga mat, eye pillow, cd’s for class, all gone.  My favorite yoga pants!  Still thankful, could have been so much worse.  We’ll get something else and move on, but dang!

Blogging Blahs

Lately I’ve been suffering from the blogging blahs.  I know that my posts of late haven’t been very interesting.  Trust me, if they aren’t interesting to me, I KNOW they aren’t interesting to you.  It seems I am not alone in this phenomena.  Most of the blogs I check daily haven’t been updated in awhile.  I’m just wondering why this is?  Is it the weather?  The imminent arrival of winter with all of it’s yuckkiness?  Have we all collectively run out of things to say?  There just doesn’t seem to be that much going on right now.  So here are some boring facts that you probably don’t care about.

My black cashmere hoodie from JCrew finally came.  It’s pretty big, I ordered a large, maybe should have gotten a medium, but it is super soft and comfy.  It was my big fall indulgence purchase.

I’m going to meet my sorority sisters this weekend for homecoming.  We’ve been friends for over 20 years now.  I love them and can’t wait to see them!  Maybe I’ll take some photos to share, we will see how it goes.

I thought that “Dancing with the Semi Famous” was a little boring last night.  I don’t think that Sabrina deserved a perfect score.  She just doesn’t entertain me at all.  Plus I was totally distracted by her music.  “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive?  Please, that is not a song to Paso by!

I worked on my Rappongi socks last night.  Even though there is a pattern, I’ve got it memorized and am really enjoying knitting it.

My new favorite tv show is “Pushing Daisies”.  The fact that one of the main characters is a knitter makes me love it all the more.

We are having the cable vs. dish debate in our house.  IU basketball season is quickly approaching and if Darling Husband Carl doesn’t get the Big Ten Network; well, I don’t even want to think about it.  So he is trying to decide what kind of dish he wants and how many televisions we want on it.  I think he’s got it all figured out, but it’s been a lot of back and forth.  We need to get it settled soon, that’s all I know.

And MINI Pearl is sick, she has bad brakes, so DHC is taking her tomorrow to get her some new shoes.  I hope they have sparkly pink or orange ones for her.  What do you mean brake shoes don’t come in colors?  Well, they totally should!

Any random things going on in your life you want to share?  I promise I will try to think of something more interesting to write about tomorrow.
